Personal Independence Payment (PIP) Form Filler Volunteer

Suitable for -

Opportunity Description

Citizens Advice Telford & The Wrekin provides information and advice to people on matters such as welfare benefits, housing and local services.

Helping people to claim Personal Independence Payment (PIP) is one of many important functions within Citizens Advice. PIP is a benefit for people with a long-term health condition or impairment, whether physical, sensory, mental, cognitive, intellectual, or any combination of these. It is paid to make a contribution to the extra costs that disabled people may face, to help them lead full, active and independent lives.

PIP helps with some of the extra costs caused by long-term ill-health or a disability if a client is aged 16 to 64. It is usually paid every four weeks. It is tax free and a claimant can get it whether they are in or out of work.

It is made up of two components (parts) daily living component and mobility component. Whether a claimant gets one or both of these depends on how their condition affects them. A claimant will need an assessment by a Health Professional with specialist training in assessing the impact of disability on an individual’s functional ability to work out the level of help they will get. Their rate will be regularly reassessed to make sure they are getting the right support.

What a PIP form filler volunteer might do in this role:

Interview clients and their carers or family about their health and care needs

Provide advice on the form and completion of the PIP form for clients

Provide guidance to clients on ‘next steps’ to be taken after the completion of    a PIP claim form to progress their application

Complete records of client interventions on our computer system to meet with our Quality of Advice Assessment (QAA) systems

You will also be responsible for arranging appointments and keeping the Advice Manager informed of these arrangements at all times.
