Opportunity for a volunteer to work within our busy community centre café.

Volunteers will need to help in café with serving customers, taking orders, cash handling, good hygiene practises, contributing ideas towards the running of the café and general support for café team. 

Volunteers will also be able to access training that will support them in their work. 

This will include access to online training using the centre’s computer suite, if needed.  The role involves lots of teamwork in a fun and supportive team with plenty of opportunities to develop skills and knowledge of working in a community centre

Description

Coram Beanstalk provides one-to-one literacy support to children across England who struggle with their reading ability and confidence.

Becoming a Coram Beanstalk reading helper is a great way to make a difference to a child’s life and enjoy a rewarding volunteering experience.

With Coram Beanstalk's volunteer programmes, you'll help three children on a one-to-one basis, twice a week, for at least 1 year (starting at any time of the year). With your support, you'll help them improve their reading ability, confidence and learn to love reading.

This simple method helps to motivate and support a child to feel more positive about their own reading, to check and deepen the child’s comprehension and to have fun with books in a way that enriches and enhances a child's learning, giving them the skills to succeed in their education.

To provide confidential emotional support for people experiencing feelings of distress or despair, including those which may lead to suicide. To provide such support by telephone, face to face, email, letter, minicom, SMS and whatever other means of communication may be adopted by Samaritans.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

    To provide confidential emotional support as above

    To uphold Samaritans Mission, Vision & Values & Policies & Procedures

    To provide a regular commitment to the branch, including overnight duties as required

    To support fellow Samaritan volunteers during shared duties

    To liaise with duty Leader at the beginning and end of each duty

    To liaise with duty Leader in respect of difficult or emergency situations or when in doubt

    To comply with instructions given by duty Leader or Director

    To maintain caller log sheets and/or systems as required by the branch

    To undertake a minimum of 5 hours on-going training each year
