Telford Hotel & Golf Resort goes green with sustainability accreditation
Telford Hotel & Golf Resort in Telford has scooped a Gold accreditation in the 2016 Green Tourism Business Scheme, it has been announced.
Green Tourism, the world’s largest sustainable certification programme for eco-friendly accommodation providers, recognises the best sustainable practices in tourism.
Improving on its previous Green Tourism rating, Telford Hotel & Golf Resort, owned by QHotels, was praised for innovations including ;
• Construction of 15 x bird boxes using reclaimed wood. These have been situated in specific spots around the hotel grounds.
• Creation of a herb garden which provides chefs fresh herbs for their menus.
• Monitoring food and general waste, reducing our figures almost by half.
• Energy walks conducted daily to monitor our energy consumption.
• Installation of a commercial water softener and voltage optimiser.
• Improvement of grounds around the hotel using up-cycled materials with help and advisement from the local gardening committee.
• Battery and ink cartridge recycling systems put in place.
• LED lighting conversion within all of our guests bedrooms.
These are a few innovations which have been carried out by staff/ team members at Telford Hotel. We continue to strive to make our hotel greener for our guests/ staff by continually coming up with new ideas. Some of which have already been put into practise. This includes :-
• Simultaneously creating new walk throughs/ paths and orchard.
• The approval of a large LED changeover in all public areas, internal and external.
• Introduction of electric car chargers.
• Surveys carried out for the installation of a large Solar PV system.
QHotels was awarded a total of 28 accreditations in the scheme, with all 26 hotels in the group, and its lodges at Slaley Hall and Belton Woods, receiving the accolade.
