Nestled on the Shropshire, Staffordshire border, Newport’s beating heart is its gorgeous High Street, packed-full of independent boutiques and leading stores offering cookery to candles, books to briefs, and furniture to finery.

A great fire in 1665 destroyed most of the medieval buildings and they were replaced with the Regency and Georgian frontages which still stand proudly today. Wide pathways, a generous High Street, and ample free parking make exploring Newport a joy.

The market town’s Farmer’s Market is rightly renowned and every third Thursday of the month, from March to December, you can pick up the very best cuts of meat, dairy, breads and pastries, vegetables, and crafts. Plus there’s an indoor market offering food, fabric, cakes, toys and more, year-round.

Famed for renowned events like the biannual Newport Nocturne night-time bike race, and the annual Victorian Carnival, there really is something for everyone here.

Sports lovers will adore the thriving rugby club, and there’s community teams covering every other sport you can think of – and more! And when it all gets too much you can relax and indulge your tastebuds courtesy of one Newport’s delicious eateries – from traditional afternoon tea, to gourmet cuisine, authentic tapas, and fiery curries. There’s something for every palate.

So do come and visit. Explore. Enjoy. And discover for yourself why Newport is seen as a jewel in Telford and Shropshire’s crown.
