TACT provides its service users with a structured and daily programme of activities and a powerful network of contacts to assist with practical issues such as housing, health needs, benefits and employment opportunities. TACT is a Community Interest Company run and managed by people who have been service users.
We have the following volunteer roles for which people going through the free accredited training volunteer programme can do:
- Support Worker, working within the Mon-Sat drop in, providing listening services (where a service user can have a one to one appointment with someone) where their needs are assessed, basic advice given if appropriate on mental health/addiction/housing/benefits/employment/signposting to other helping organisations.
- Printing Service - working within Strickland Print learning how to use the printing equipment for their customers.
- Choices Cafe - Working within the Cafe, kitchen duties, customer service etc
- Group Facilitator - Working towards and leading the many peer led groups (e.g Grief and Loss, SMART recovery, Womens Group)
- Administrator - Working for TACT doing any administration needed
Applicants certainly do not need a clean DBS check to apply, we do understand that someone wishing to work here may have been in difficulty beforehand, so as long as they are upfront about any previous convictions and want to change their lives, help others etc we will try to accomodate them.
Applicants will need to be committed to attending the Volunteer Training Courses.
A regular commitment of as many hours as you are able to give would be appreciated, all expenses reimbursed.
TACT Training and Education has a training centre at Strickland House which is registered with Open College Network West Midlands to offer training and education to students.
TACT training delivers a comprehensive Volunteer Training Programme to an ever-expanding group of volunteers on topics such as Drug and Alcohol Awareness, Addiction and Recovery, Understanding Mental Health, Peer Mentoring and Support, Facilitating Groups, The Skilled Helper, Managing Transactions, The Drama Triangle, Dealing with Grief and Loss, Anger Management, Presentation Skills, Managing Boundaries etc.
There is a staged process for developing as a TACT or Branches Listening Service volunteer before a volunteer can work directly with service users.
Volunteers have access to continuous development through training programmes that aim to increase their readiness for progression into other voluntary work, paid employment and self employment through TACT's development and sponsorship of small business enterprises and its strong links into the statutory and independent sectors and the local business community.
