Grandmentors is an innovative volunteering project where older volunteers use their lifetime of skills and experience to support and mentor young people leaving the care system.

These young people who are out of employment, education or training (NEET) often need a guiding hand and role model to support them to find work, continue their education or begin training – ultimately giving them the skills and self-belief to lead successful and independent lives.

As a volunteer you’ll receive:

Full training plus ongoing support from the Project Co-ordinator

Expenses

Invitations to organisation events throughout the year e.g. during care leavers week, cooking sessions with young people, social events with other volunteers etc.

Get Involved in Adult Social Care

Are you an expert with lived experience of Adult Social Care?

We are looking for volunteers who currently or have in the past accessed Adult Social Care, care and support services to work with us. To ensure that those who have lived experience (experts by experience) are heard, valued, and can inform, question, and challenge our developments and practice. 

We are looking for volunteers to join our various boards, get involved in projects and pieces of time-limited co-production activity.

This may include:

- Providing feedback or sharing experiences with decision makers

- Reviewing policies and procedures

- Assisting in recruitment processes

- Networking in a positive way with other people who have an interest or access adult social care

- Commissioning and contracting activities – involvement in commissioning new or reviewing existing services

- Reviewing public information prior to release to ensure accuracy and readability

Whatever you bring to the table, however often you can help, volunteering with Scouts can change young people's lives.

No previous experience with young people? No problem.

Whether you'd like to help out week-after-week or whenever-you-can, we provide training, learning opportunities and cups of tea – every step of the way.

We need help with planning programmes, youth leadership, administration, behind-the-scenes support, equipment & site maintenance, trusteeship & adult leadership, communications & publicity, and more.

With 13 Groups across Shropshire Severn and Teme Scout District alone, we'll always be able to find an opportunity near you!

Are you qualified, knowledgeable or experienced on a particular topic? Would you be willing to share your expertise with our staff or customers?

Topics might include mental health, substance misuse, anxiety, first aid, professional boundaries etc.
